Sight Word Sentence Strips

Kindergarten kids will love these high-frequency words sentence strip puzzles. These strips can be used in several ways depending on the level of your students. The added bonus of using these as puzzle activities is even more fun!

FREE printable Sight Word reading activity, perfect for kindergarten kids! Practice reading the sentence strips and matching the sight words.

Print (and choose) as many strips as you need for the number of students in your class – choose the set you want for the level and ability of the students in your class. The Fry Sight Words included in this set are: a, about, all, an, and, are, as, at, be, been, but, by, called, can, come, could, day, did, do, down.

High-Frequency Words Sentence Strips

The best way to use these strips is to print the colored set on card stock and laminate them. You could also use a hole puncher to create a ring booklet with them. Each sentence includes a simple sentence structure along with a picture, then the second half of the strip includes the sight word. You could have the kids reading each word on the strip which is great for reading fluency and then find the matching sight word card they need to add to the strip. This encourages the kids to read and differentiate these important sight words.

Another way you can use these strips is to print them out in greyscale or black and white (included in the set) and then have the kids cut and paste the sentences and matching sight words into their books!

You could also have these strips printed, laminated and then hung on a display board for the kids to read throughout the week or month. Or you could even use them to play a scavenger hunt game (hang the sight words around the room as the kids read the strip and find the matching sight word card). These strips are incredibly versatile!
