FREE Penguin Playdough Mats

Do your children love playdough as much as mine? It is such a fun sensory material and so versatile too! Pair playdough with a printable mat like this penguin mat for a different kind of fun playdough activity!

FREE playdough mats for kids with a penguin theme. A perfect winter activity to improve fine motor skills.

Whether you let your child use his/her own imagination when playing with playdough (even exploring mixing the colors!) or provide tools to play with, playdough is a great educational "toy". Manipulating playdough uses fine motor skills and it provides sensory stimulation too.

Playdough mats are good for variation since children do tend to get bored using the same playdough toys/tools all the time. Using themed printable playdough mats to fit with your lesson plans or your child's interests opens up a world of possibilities for learning! Here, color recognition skills are being developed when the child rolls the cube and pick the corresponding color playdough to fill the picture.

How to Prepare the Penguin Playdough Activity:

Print the free playdough mat and color cube if you do not have your own. Laminate it or use a dry-erase pocket. Provide playdough, colors must be the same as the cube.

How to Play:

Simply roll the cube to reveal which color playdough to use. The child can decide when to fill the mittens, hat or scarf. No specific order is necessary. It can also be used without the color cube and the child can fill the picture at random.

We rolled the cube and it landed on yellow, so we decided to make both mittens yellow.

Roll twice more to find the color for the scarf and the hat. Fill it with the playdough.

TIP: provide utensils that make patterns/indentations in the dough. Utensils like fondant tools or any other kitchen tools like straws, forks, etc. make great marks in playdough. Using utensils will open up doors to even more creativity when the child can make patterns on the playdough "clothes" which older kids might enjoy!

Grab your free penguin playdough mat and color cube now and let the fun learning begin!
