Snowman CVC Rhymes Match-up

Kindergarten kids will LOVE this Winter CVC center! Kids will read the rhymes on the snowman heads and find a matching CVC word to build the snowman. They will then write their match-ups onto the recording sheet provided.

Build a snowman with this FREE printable CVC rhyming activity, perfect for kindergarten kids this Winter. They will love to place the snowman heads on the right snowman by matching rhyming CVC words. What a great Winter literacy activity for kindergarten!

To prepare:

  • Paper
  • Printer
  • Scissors
  • Laminator
  • Sensory tub (snow ice) optional
Print as many sets of CVC cards and recording sheets as you need for the number of small groups in your class (color and blacklines included).

Rhyme Match CVC – Build a Snowman

After you’ve printed and laminated the cards and cut them apart, place them into sensory bins and show the kids what they need to do. They choose a ‘snowman head’ card and read the CVC word then place that on the mat, then read and find a matching ‘snowball’ to give the snowman his body.

You can get the learners to write their matching CVC words into the recording sheet. This is a great way to practice building short CVC sounds. You could also create a group competition doing this!

CVC words can be difficult for kindergarten kids. Encourage them to work on their reading and rhyming skills with this set of fun snowman cards!
