Teach Kids About Healthy Eating with a Food Group Sorting Activity

It's not easy getting kids to eat balanced meals sometimes. As hard as I try to provide healthy options for my kids, there seems to always be one or two food groups lacking in their diet. One way that I teach them about nutrition and encourage them to eat healthy is by using this free food group sorting activity to learn about the 5 main food groups: fruit, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy.

FREE sorting activity for preschool and kindergarten to learn about the five main food groups. Teach kids about healthy eating and balanced meals. Includes both color and black and white versions and 20 images of food to sort in the correct group.

It seems that after my two daughters played this food groups sorting game, they got a better understanding of what a balanced meal consists of. They also learned a lot about different foods and how to categorize them.

I asked my daughters which food group is their favorite and they both said "fruit". This is a great answer, but I had to explain that they need vegetables too, and in larger quantities than fruit. The printable was good for showing a visual diagram of how much they need from each category.

As much as we try to feed our kids healthy foods, you can't force a child to eat something they don't want. This is why I give my kids a daily multivitamin. I've been on the lookout for the perfect vitamins with the best ingredients, no artificial colors or preservatives - plus they have to taste good, right? SmartyPants Kid's Complete gummies was the answer to my search!

SmartyPants Kid's Complete gummies are not only great tasting (they seriously taste like candy) but as a mom I can rest assured that my kids are getting the important nutrients that might be lacking in their daily diets.

I love that these vitamins have no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and no HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). They're gluten free, allergy free and they contain a nice dose of Omega 3's from sustainable fisheries.

Don't forget to also download your free Food Groups sorting activity at the bottom of the post. It comes in 2 versions - color and black & white, and includes the 5 main food groups and 20 images of foods for kids to sort in the correct group.

You can laminate this activity to turn it into a reusable game, or it can be a cut/paste/color activity.

    10. The Texas Roadhouse Happy Hour typically features discounted drinks, including popular margaritas, beer, and select cocktails. Some locations may also offer small food specials during happy hour. It’s a great time to enjoy your favorite drinks at a lower price while relaxing in their lively, casual atmosphere.

    11. I’ve been going through the Red Robin Menu prices and honestly, they seem pretty fair considering the portion sizes and the bottomless sides. Some of the gourmet burgers are a bit on the higher end, but you can definitely taste the difference in quality. Still, I’m trying to figure out which items give the best overall value. If anyone has a favorite meal that feels worth every penny, I’d love to hear your suggestions.

    12. I remember doing food group sorting games like this with my preschooler a few years back, and it really sparked her interest in trying new veggies and proteins. Now that she's older, we've moved to better meal planning to keep things balanced. I personally switched to using https://www.reddit.com/r/workout/comments/1o82cf3/unimeal_reviews_anyone_here_actually_tried_it for ideas on family-friendly recipes, and it's helped us build healthier habits without much fuss.

    16. This activity really brought back childhood memories for me. I remember during my school days, my father took me to Texas Roadhouse on a kids eat free night, and I still remember how much I enjoyed the special kids meal. Experiences like that made food and learning feel fun. Now, when planning family meals, I usually check https://texasroadhousemenupro.com
for menu details, and this page about kids eat free options https://texasroadhousemenupro.com/texas-roadhouse-kids-eat-free/
is especially helpful for parents. Thanks for sharing such a great resource for teaching kids about healthy eating!

    17. The kids were hooked on the Food Groups printable game—they sorted dairy and grains, colored the black-and-white version, discussed the balanced diet, and my son ate yogurt for the first time without fussing. His eating progress was noticeable and joyful! We wanted to equip the kitchen for easy, hassle-free cooking of nutritious meals. We looked at https://rebel.pissedconsumer.com/review.html for reviews of high-quality returned items like cookware. We chose a set of saucepans and a grill on sale; everything is like new. Now we cook vegetable casseroles together—the kids help, the food is healthy, and the evenings are cozy!
