When learning about shapes in preschool and kindergarten, it is important to show children that shapes are everywhere in our environment, and that we interact with shapes every single day. This will make shape learning easier and more fun!

These free printable shape cards have pictures of real life objects representing 2D and 3D shapes. We did a fun sorting activity with our school-bus Apple to Zebra pocket chart that we absolutely love! Keep reading for our review.

FREE printable Shape Sorting activity with 2D and 3D cards featuring real life objects to identify and sort. Great for preschoolers and kindergarten kids learning about shapes. Designed to be used with our Apple to Zebra pocket chart!

Download your FREE Shape Sorting cards at the bottom of this post!

This activity includes 2 sets of shape sorting cards with real life objects, one with 2D shapes and the other with 3D shapes. Each set includes 6 shapes with 18 objects to sort.

2D Shapes: circle, triangle, square, oval, rectangle, diamond
3D Shapes: sphere, cube, cone, cylinder, pyramid, rectangular prism

Supplies Needed:

Instructions:

After printing, I recommend laminating the cards to make them more durable since children will be handling them. Choose the shapes that you will be working on and place the category cards (with the shape names) at the top of your pocket chart(You can do the activity without a pocket chart on a table or on the floor, but a pocket chart makes the activity so much more fun.)

Shuffle the sorting cards and place them in a pile. Kids can pick one card at a time, identify the object, identify the shape, then slide it into the pocket beneath the shape category.

Apple to Zebra Pocket Charts

What I love about our Apple to Zebra pocket chart is the adorable school bus design that is bright, colorful and really stands out among other decorations on the wall. It's very eye catching and kids love it!

It is also VERY high-quality, well constructed and durable, which I think will make it last a long time. If you are planning on having children interact with it, you definitely want a well-made pocket chart like this one.

Apple to Zebra also has other fun designs such as a tree, an apple, and a pair of overalls. See them all here!
