I love going on nature walks in the fall. It's a wonderful way to discuss the changing seasons with your kids. How the leaves change color and why you find them on the ground. You can also discuss the wildlife and how they begin to prepare for the winter. The importance of finding food now and how the winter brings food scarcity and hibernation.

We have a pond in our backyard where we see frogs. Every year they hibernate in the soil and we see them again in the spring. It's pretty cool to see how they adapt to the cold winter weather here in Canada.

Print out the puzzles onto paper or card stock if you'd like them to be more durable. If you'd like them to last, I suggest you laminate them or cover them in contact paper. Then cut them up along the lines and staple it together on the left hand side.

Have your child color in the dots on each number with a dot marker or, if you're adventurous, use paint and a Q-tip. Then have them write out the number as well.

To extend this activity, read your favorite fall books, try this sensory shaving cream fall art project, head outdoors and collect fall leaves and do leaf rubbings. Create your own fall sensory bin with leaves, acorns and anything else you find on your walk.

While I'm not a fan of winter I do enjoy the fall colors, bring them into your home and have fun with it.
