There are 6 Animal Rulers. The bee is 1 inch, the turtle is 2 inches, the rabbit is 3 inches, the horse is 4 inches, the bear is 5 inches and the elephant is 6 inches.
Give your kids or students a small item to measure, such as a pencil, marker, spoon, bottle, book, shoe, toy, etc. and let them figure out which animal matches the length of that object. If the object is bigger than the biggest animal (6 inches), let them use 2 or 3 animals to measure and then add them up to figure out the length.
For older children (kindergarten, 1st grade and up), there are 8 equation mats with a total of 24 equations ranging from easy to advanced. A rabbit plus a turtle equals what animal? An elephant minus a horse equals what animal? This is a unique and interesting way to teach basic math and measuring skills and is sure to keep your kids interested and make learning fun!
Thank you! This was a HUGE hit with my almost 5 year old! Very cute & the activity kept her occupied for quite a while. She needed some assistance with the more advanced equations but caught on quickly. Great activity.

ReplyDeleteGuten Abend!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried this specific method yet, but using Animal Rulers seems like a wonderful way to make measurement feel like a rewarding game for kids. The focus required to match lengths reminds me of the boyfriend in fnf competing against all his opponents to win the girlfriend's love. I’m excited to see how combining the bear and rabbit helps my students visualize addition and scale more clearly.

ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteAnimal rulers make measurement and math more engaging by helping students practice numbers, comparisons, and basic calculations. Accurate measurements also matter in fitness, where https://ffmicalculator.org/
