To prepare:
Print the ‘cheeseburger’ mat and 'pickle' letter cards. There are two options for this mat (one with eyes and one without). Laminate
the mat along with the 'pickle' cards. There is also a black and white option for
the letter cards to save colour ink. You could use coloured paper to print them
on too – although this will make it slightly harder to see when the kids start
building their letters.
Alphabet Formation Cheeseburger Play Dough Mats
These mats are so much fun for
preschoolers and kindergarten kids alike. Kids need a lot of practice in reading, tracing and building their letters once they begin learning them. It is
important that we provide them ample opportunities to study each letter
formation and shape.
Once everything is laminated, place them on the learning table along with play dough tubs and maybe some rolling pins. A student will choose a letter ‘pickle’ card and then identify the letter on the card (e.g: ‘e’), they will say a word that begins with the letter ‘e’ like egg. They will then place the pickle card onto the cheeseburger mat and start building the letter.

You could also choose the letters you are
working on and focus on a particular set rather than the whole set at once. The
kids will love doing this! If you would like this activity larger, print the
cards along with the ‘Cheeseburger mat’ on A3 poster paper.
