Pirate Counting Gold Coins

Arrrrrr! Let's practice counting skills by counting golden coins with our pirate friends! Here is a fun (and free) printable counting activity, perfect for your preschoolers!

FREE printable pirate-themed counting activity for preschoolers. Fun hands-on math activity that can be done with gold coins or playdough.

Counting activities with young kids should be fun and hands-on, right? If a child can "see", the number represented with physical elements like these play coins in this pirate counting activity, it makes the concept so much easier to grasp. Plus it is so much more fun to learn AND play too!

Preparing this activity:

Print and laminate(or use a dry-erase pocket) the printable pages. Cut the number cards out. Get play coins, playdough balls, or any other manipulative together to help with the counting.

How to use the printables:

Simply pick a number card and count that number of coins to place in the treasure chest. Questions can be asked like "How many coins did the pirate find?" , "How many more do you need?" etc.

Take the learning further and pick two cards at a time. Count the two numbers together to get the sum, again by using the coins. Find the number showing the answer. Do subtraction sums by choosing two cards but using the larger number first. Remove coins from the treasure chest to get to the answer.

This counting activity is good for individual and independent use in the Maths center or Playdough center(when using playdough). Or, it can be a guided activity, or simply a fun activity at home to keep a preschooler learning with play!

Have fun counting and learning golden coins with pirates! ARRRRR!!
